Kinnelon

The Borough of Kinnelon spans 19 square miles in Morris County, is home to approximately 10,000 residents, and is about 30 miles from New York City.

It is a low-density, suburban community with many lakes, parks and trails. Situated below the slopes of the Ramapo Mountains and around half a dozen lakes, Kinnelon has no industry, few stores, and various wildlife are frequent backyard visitors.

Communities located partially or completely within Kennelon include Bald Hill, Brook Valley, Charlottesburg, Fayson Lakes, Ideal Lake, Jacksonville, Saw Mill Pond, Smoke Rise, Stickle Pond, Sun Tan Lake, Surprise Lake and Untermeyer Lake. Smoke Rise, a private gated community recognized as one of the oldest gated communities in the United States, includes more than 900 unique homes located on 2,500 acres surrounding Lake Kinnelon.

Natural parklands include Silas Condict County Park on 1,000 acres, Pyramid Mountain Natural Historical Area on 1,675 acres of rugged trails, fields, forests, rock outcroppings, and wetlands, and Splitrock Reservoir covering 625 acres of wilderness. The highest mountain in Kinnelon is Kitty Ann Mountain. Located in Smoke Rise, the mountain offers views of northern New Jersey at an elevation of 1,140 feet from the Smoke Rise Tower, the highest point in New Jersey.

The Kinnelon Public Schools serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade in its four schools  In 2016, Kinnelon High School was named #3 in the state by New Jersey Monthly magazine, and was listed as a top 500 high school by Newsweek.
